New “HZ®/ AZ®” and “The impervious steel sheet pile wall” brochures
ArcelorMittal’s sheet piling range continues to grow. The new profile is the HZ 680M LT king pile to form a combined wall system HZ/AZ. It is the lightest HZ® sheet pile in the whole range, and was developed more specifically for structures with limited working space (depth). Though only 630 mm deep, it possesses a high stiffness (moment of inertia), and is most appropriate for upgrading existing quay walls. In this respect it was first supplied for the deepening of a quay wall in a Chilean port in 2013. The existing structure is a deck on pile, and a combination C23 is driven underwater to support the existing sloped soil below the deck (see picture below). Efficiency and stiffness of the wall, as well as simple installation procedure were the main advantages of the steel solution. The second shipment of the new king pile was to a port in Germany: its shape yields a very high ratio “perimeter / mass”, and consequently it is an outstanding ‘tension pile’ element.
Watertightness is a major topic in rather specific applications, like underground car parks, waste confinement, etc. ArcelorMittal has developed new sealing systems to adapt its portfolio to comply with most stringent requirements from customers. One of those requirements is the preservation of the environment. The new sealants are environmentally-friendly and can safely be used in direct contact with groundwater: Roxan® Plus, Akila® and Beltan® Plus. Arcoseal™ was the first “green” sealant, and has been used successfully in the past in many applications. Evidently, each system has its own specific advantages. The aim of the revised brochure is to explain in details the characteristics of the sealing systems, the application and installation methods, and to support design engineers in selecting the sealants which will best fit the needs of their project.
