New HZM Steel Wall System: update September 2008
ArcelorMittal has further good news to share about the HZM system. Preliminary details about this revolutionary system were released beginning of 2008. In the meantime, first rollings of the HZM beams could not only confirm our expectations but the new configuration and equipment of the mill in Differdange allowed our engineers to perform an enhancement of the shape, and consequently of the section properties.
The thickness of the flange of the sections has been increased. This contributes largely to the excellent design properties of the new system. Furthermore, the new rolling process makes it possible to achieve a flange width of 460 mm.
These changes to the overall shape contribute to a more cost-efficient solution, and increase the maximum achievable section modulus. Good news indeed, since this opens the door to new applications and represents a huge step forward in the foundation solutions.
To avoid any confusion with the sections that we advertised in our first preliminary brochure, we decided to rename the HZM sections. In the upcoming revised flyer, which should be available in a couple of weeks, you will find all the information required to design your deep retaining walls and quay walls with the enhanced king piles HZ 880M, HZ 1080M and HZ 1180M.
Furthermore, we are on schedule with the industrial launching. Did we mention that the first projects with the new HZM sections have already been booked? Some contractors are already looking forward to use these remarkable piles, which unquestionably set new standards in foundation solutions.
